Bangladesh to break all records of food autarky |

Dhaka-- (UNB) – The country is expected to produce 2.65 crore metric tons of food grains this year surpassing all previous records. This was disclosed at a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Agriculture held at the Parliament building yesterday with committee chairman Dr TIM Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury in the chair. At the meeting, the opposition lawmakers of the committee lauded the government management for achieving tremendous success in the food production. A report on the foreign trip by some of the members of the committee was placed before the meeting and a discussion was held on the report. The members recently visited India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Thailand to gather experience on the agriculture management in those countries. The meeting decided to formulate recommendations for development of farmers and agriculture. Besides, zoning of agriculture, crop insurance and crop diversification programs also came up for discussion in the meeting. Committee members Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, Emdadul Haq, Md Raihanul Haq, Abul Kalam Azad Siddiqui, Md Mujibur Rahman Sarwar and Md Abdul Wahab attended the meeting. |
